Updated over a week ago

"Shef Social" is a feature that lets you engage with potential & loyal customers. Shef Social allows you to create "stories" on your menu and share them with customers who "follow" you. Follow along below to learn more about Shef Social, how to create posts, how your customers see your posts, and more.

Information included in this article:

Using Shef Social in your Dashboard

To get started, visit the "Shef Social" tab in your Shef Dashboard.

Here you can:

  • Create stories/posts

  • See your past posts and the number of "likes" you received on each

  • See your follower list

  • Message any of your followers

How Do Customers "Follow" Me?

If a customer "follows" you on the Shef Platform, it means that they're interested in hearing updates from you. Customers can click the "Follow" button directly on your menu to begin following you.

Once they've followed you, your menu/dishes will appear in a "Shefs you follow" section while they're browsing the Shef website:

Your menu will also appear in the customer's profile under "Following" where they can find all the shefs they follow as well as a feed of posts from their favorite shefs.

Tip: See a list of your followers in the "Shef Social" tab of your Shef Dashboard here!

Posting with Shef Social

When you post "stories" using Shef Social, they'll appear in two places: 1) your menu for anyone to see and 2) an email update to your followers. Customers can engage with your post by giving it a "like" using the thumbs up icon.

You can use Shef Social for a variety of posts from new dishes to promotions and more! Here are a few types of stories you can post:

  • Announcing a new dish, what's in it, and encouraging customers to try it!

  • Announcing holiday specials, seasonal, or limited time dishes

  • Letting customers know you will be on a break/on vacation and announcing when you're back

  • Launching a new discount/promotion

  • Telling the story of your favorite dish

  • Explaining the benefits of ingredients you use

  • and more!

Tip: Use photos & graphics to make your stories more visually exciting and engaging!

Gaining More Followers

Want to encourage customers to follow & get updates from you? Here are a few ideas you can try:

  • Mention it in the handwritten notes you put in customer orders.

  • Make a Shef Social post introducing yourself to new customers and encouraging them to follow you for updates!

  • Message customers who have ordered from you multiple times and left a positive review! Head to "My Ratings" in your Shef Dashboard > Orders > Send Message to do so.

We hope you enjoy this feature as a way to engage with and update potential & loyal customers. Good luck and happy posting!
