Finding, Joining, and Posting in Relevant Facebook Groups

People use Facebook groups as a way to find help cooking or for recommendations for food, even homemade food! This is the perfect chance to share your menu with them and let them know why your food is so amazing!

There are two ways you can engage with people in Facebook groups:

1) Posting in groups and

2) Commenting on people's posts.

Follow along below for steps on both!

Step 1: Search for Facebook groups

  • Use Facebook's search bar to start searching for local groups!

  • Possible words/phrases to type in the search bar:

    • [your city or neighborhood] food →“Seattle food”

    • [your cuisine] food in [your city or neighborhood] → “Soul Food in Chicago”

    • [your culture/people from your country] in [your city or neighborhood] → “Persians in the Bay Area”

    • Anything else related to you → “Moms in New York”

After you search each phrase, click “groups” on the sidebar to find them easily. To open them up as new tabs, press “command+t” on your keyboard while clicking the title of each group you want to join. Join anything related to the community, food, your culture, etc. You can find example groups here.

Step 2: Join the Groups

Once you're on the group’s page, click the “Join group” button.

Note: You may be able to join immediately or you may have to answer questions and wait for acceptance. You will get notified once you’ve been approved!

Step 3: Post & Comment

Scroll through the Facebook groups engaging with people and sharing your menu/give-get referral code with them. Feel free to be creative and post what you feel is best & most relevant! Below are just suggestions.

For Commenting:

What to Say:

I would love to cook for you! I prepare delicious, homemade [insert cuisine here] food and it’s delivered to your door. You can order from me directly through Shef and you can even get $15 off your first 2 orders when you order through my link: [insert your referral link].

What to Include:

Note: If you don’t find others' posts to comment on, feel free to post in the group instead!

For Posting:

What to Say:

Hi there! I know finding the time to prepare healthy, homemade meals can be tough. I’d love to offer some help by cooking a homemade meal just for you! I prepare delicious [insert cuisine here] food and all of it can be delivered to your door. Explore my full menu and get $15 off your first 2 orders here: [insert referral link here]. I would be so happy to share my cooking with you!

What to Include:

  • High-quality photos (your food, you, your menu, etc.)

  • Your give-get referral code or link. You can find your code and create links here.

  • Your delivery days, your most popular dishes, or anything else you’d like to highlight (optional)

Step 4: Check In Frequently

Check back in every 1-2 days to scroll through your Facebook feed and comment on new posts, respond to direct messages you've received, follow up in previous threads, or to post again (repetition is key)!

Note: Posting too frequently (e.g., every day), however, can cause negative effects and make people feel like the group if being spammed. Keep an eye for the group's rules as well - they may have specific days where promoting is allowed.
